Optimum Layout of Multiple Tree-type Boreholes in Low-Permeability Coal Seams to Improve Methane Drainage Performance

Extracting coal mine methane (CMM) is important for underground mining safety. The tree-type borehole drainage (TTBD) technique can effectively remove from seams. Determining a suitable drilling pattern multiple boreholes will promote the efficient application of this in mines. Aimed at solving problem that optimum extraction layout unclear, study first constructed full-coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical model to simulate flow coal. This and data were used investigate effect layouts, spacing, different Langmuir volume pressure constants, initial permeabilities on CMM drainage. results show layouts result significant differences use rhombic sub-borehole reduce pre-drainage time by up 44.4%. As spacing increases, total required increases as power function. constant, fracture permeability, or matrix permeability effective zone expands. also expands when constant decreases but all these changes are accompanied shortening completion time. These provide reliable basis optimizing layouts.
